The purpose of this project was to design an interactive tool and explore techniques in interactive media design.

The Design Problem:

To get our foot into the door of AR design, we began with something simple that allowed us to learn all of the core skills:

User Problem:

Primary problem: zoo visitor’s frustration with not seeing particular animals during their visit due to various reasons

Secondary problem: increase engagement and visits at the Zoo to increase the available funding for animal caretaking

Project Objective

To enhance zoo visitor’s experience, we designed and produced a AR application that allows users to see a virtual animal doing a typical behaviour for its species. The idea is that as the user walks to an animal’s enclosure, there will be a marker somewhere nearby. After scanning, the virtual model overlays on the marker and the user can move their phone to further observe it. This is meant to be educational about the animal’s behaviour, appearance, and size.

Wireframing, user journey, style guide, and prototyping
